Meet Our Staff

Violet Edwards, Commissioner

Madison County Commission District 6

Commissioner Violet Edwards is a successful businesswoman and public official with a proven record of

leadership, fiscal responsibility, community development, and accountability. She was elected to office

in 2020, becoming the first Black woman to serve on the commission in its 212-year history.

Edwards is the architect of resolutions that have impacted veteran appreciation, county redistricting, neighborhood safety, and job opportunities. In 2023, she launched a $1.2M project to add sidewalks and upgrade handicap-accessible ramps in her district.

Under Violet’s leadership, the center has seen a 30% growth in membership and has reached self-sufficiency financially. Successful partnerships with Alabama A&M and Huntsville Hospital have allowed the center to expand its fitness programming and health screenings. In partnership with TARCOG, the center runs the most extensive nutrition program in North Alabama for seniors 60 and older.

Commissioner Edwards has a proven track record of advocacy, service, and leadership that has directly impacted Huntsville and the residents of Madison County's District 6. She was elected to office in 2020, becoming the first Black woman to serve on the county commission.

Commissioner Edwards is most known in the local non-profit sector for her tireless work with various agencies, including Christmas Charities Year-Round (CCYR) and the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (NACH). She draws from a long list of unique career experiences that included a 13-year journalism career (both television and radio), non-profit management, working from the home (stay-at-home-mom), coordinating events, being an adjunct lecturer, and being a university development officer.

Commissioner Edwards holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama and an MBA from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is married to Anthony Edwards. Together they have three beautiful children..
